Saddam Hussein was hanged before dawn Saturday in Baghdad five days after he lost his appeal.
The former dictator, 69, had been sentenced to death for the deaths of 148 men and boys in the town of Dujail in 1982.
The execution was carried out at 6:10 a.m. and was announced on the state-run television. Saddam was wearing black and carrying a Koran. His death was witnessed by 14 Iraqi officials and took place at a former military intelligence building that is part of a U.S. base now.
President Bush was sleeping at his Crawford, Texas, ranch at the time of the execution, according to a White House spokesman, and was not awakened.
It was his best night’s sleep in years.
Saddam was a scapegoat for Osama Bin Laden. I wish Hussein wrote a tell all book and got it posted on the internet before his death. And in this book he told of all the scandals and corruption within the two Bush administrations. All the lies, corruption, payoffs, and senseless murder. This book would’ve been both legendary and necessary in this dictatorship term of George W.
